Contact the Bureau to confirm the current application, fee and inspection process. A submission does not issue an approval.
Before a qualifying home is sold, leased or changes occupancy, the owner must obtain a Fire Prevention certificate. The Bureau will confirm current smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, secondary-power-source label and local portable-extinguisher requirements. This is separate from any Building and Construction certificate.
Life-hazard uses receive State-required periodic inspections. Chapter 113 subjects non-life-hazard businesses to annual local registration and inspection. Contact the Bureau before opening, changing operations or taking over a business.
Contact the Bureau before an activity that may require a Fire Code permit. Apply more than 10 business days before the requested date. Later applications carry added charges, and inspection cannot be guaranteed within 48 hours. Tents and events may require other approvals.
Report a suspected Fire Code violation or other non-emergency fire-safety concern to the Bureau.
New Jersey prohibits burning rubbish, garbage, construction or trade waste, and fallen leaves. Contact Fire Prevention before other burning; local approval does not replace a State permit. Draining a pond or other body of water requires a Fire Official permit application at least 30 days beforehand. Review the State recreational fire permit guidance.
